Sometimes in rescue you can feel that there are so many people that just don't care enough, when you deal with cats surrendered for bogus reasons, or such minor reasons that are entirely fixable...and you deal with breeders that think their responsibility ends when they ship the kitten or cat out.

THEN, you meet people like the couple I welcomed into my home today.  We've had a sickly kitten in rescue for some weeks/months now.  She was surrendered with a severe ocular infection, and it has taken numerous vet specialist visits with it still not completely cured and the specialist concerned that there is an underlying FIP there.  I'd been talking to this couple about this kitten and they met her her and fell in love.  I explained that we couldn't feel good about adopting her out until we could make sure she did not have a terminal disease.  But they asked if they could take her home anyway.  I've had to keep her in an enclosure in my garage as I cannot put her in with my own cats, and I felt bad about this as she is young (she's ~8 months old now) and so darn sweet and lovable.

They said that they wanted to make sure she had a happy life, even if it was short because of FIP...and that if in another month we found that out, at least she'd have a month of being loved.  Of course that made me cry.  So Kristine and I decided to allow them to take the kitten home, and we told them we would waive any adoption fee because of this situation, even though Rescue (and my personal bank account) is out over $800 in vet bills for her.

They brought a check with them, saying that it was a small donation to Rescue as they admired what we did.  I didn't look at it while they were there, but opened it when they left.  They gave Savannah Rescue $500!  Such generous hearts...and at a time that Savannah Rescue really needed it.

Kristine and I are very touched by these people's hearts.  Please send strong thoughts and pray that this kitten truly does not have FIP, and can live a long and happy life with these wonderful people.  In another month we will be re-evaluating and talking again with the infectious disease specialist and hoping we can rule this out pretty certainly.

What is Savannah Cat Rescue?

Savannah Cat Rescue is a volunteer service offered by the Savannah Cat Club.  We take responsibility for Savannahs that have fallen through the cracks.

Our rescue cats may come from a variety of places, the main one being irresponsible breeders who have sold kittens into homes not really prepared or able
to care for a Savannah.  The irresponsible breeder also does not take any responsibility for the Savannah when the new owners need help or need to return
the cat.  A good breeder will always take back a cat he/she has bred, no matter the age or circumstance.  When owners contact the Savannah Cat Rescue,
we first try to help them through any problem(s) they may be having.  If that does not work, then the Savannah Cat Rescue takes possession of the cat.

Although the Savannah breed is young, it will only be a matter of time before we begin to receive rescue Savannahs from kitten mills.  Detestable kitten mills
in the Midwest produce numerous breeds of cats, and then sell them to pet stores for resale at exorbitant prices.  Many of these people who bought that
adorable kitten had no idea what they were getting themselves into.  Please do not purchase a kitten or puppy of any breed at a pet store!

If we cannot help the owners solve their problem(s) with their Savannah, we will take the cats out of the situation they are in, place them in a qualified foster
home, rehabilitate them if necessary, have them spayed/neutered, evaluate their needs and requirements, and adopt them into a suitable permanent home
when the right one comes along.

Do you have a Savannah in need of rescue?

If you are having problems with your Savannah Cat, the Savannah Cat Club's Savannah Rescue will gladly try and help you work through and correct the problems.
Our rescue volunteers have experience raising and training Savannahs, so they have encountered most of the problems you might be having with these active,
smart cats, and they are more than willing to work with you to fix the problems.  Please contact us as soon as possible.

However, if you have no choice but to turn your Savannah over to our Rescue, we will need the following basic information:

bulletCat's name, age, and sex (please indicate if spayed/neutered),
bulletBreeder's name and the sire and dam's registered names (if known),
bulletYour city and state,
bulletHow quickly you must relocate the cat,
bulletWhy you need to give the cat up,
bulletWhat behavioral problems the cat may have.

Since the Savannah Cat Club's Cat Rescue is run totally by volunteers, and funded by donations, please be aware that we would appreciate a donation towards
helping us rehabilitate and rehome your cat.  It may be the cost of flying the cat to one of our foster homes, or some other amount as you are able.  However,
we will not turn down any Savannah if you are financially unable to make a donation.

If you need to contact the Savannah Cat Club's Savannah Cat Rescue, please contact us at rescue@savannahcatclub.com.

Available Savannahs

We are happy to say that the Savannah breed has had very, very few Savannahs in need of adoption. Currently we do not have any Savannahs in
Rescue, but please watch this space for additions.

OZZY

Ozzy is an F3 Savannah male. He went to his new home recently.

How Do I Apply to Adopt a Rescue Savannah?

If you have carefully considered your options, and feel that you would like to bring a Rescue Savannah into your home, please fill out our
Adoption Agreement form. This will give us pertinent information about you and the home that you are offering.

It has become increasingly difficult for us to keep track of applications and almost impossible for us to review them all when we have a cat
into Rescue. We are currently trialing a new method to facilitate adoptions of any available Savannahs in Rescue.

We have created a Yahoo Groups email list, SVCC-Rescue. You can search for those terms on the Yahoo Groups webpage or use this link http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/SVCC-Rescue/ to join the list.

This is not a chat list so there will not be any replies to posts by moderators. The moderators of the list are the Rescue Coordinators and will
post any available Savannahs to this list. So the list is for announcements only and so will not be a lot of emails for anyone to cope with.

Joining this list will ensure that you learn of available Savannahs in Rescue as early as possible,
probably before they are even posted to this website.
